As part of my gear as a supervisor (Supervisor In Training - SIT) is a store issued, handheld radio. At first it's fun because it's new and shiny with insight into a world you don't know as a cashier or non-radio holder. And then ... that luster wears off quickly as you realize why everyone doesn't have a radio. It's for good reason, too. I usually joke, "It's all fun and games at Costco until someone gives you a radio." No one is taught the proper use of a radio, how it functions, or even radio etiquette (yes, there's a decorum to follow) One would think for all the Costco University classes, modules, and continuing development courses, that there would be one to address radio use. As I was strolling the streets of Seattle last week, I was mulling over my life so far on my life path. I was gravely disappointed as I compared it to my friends and family accomplishments of marriage, children and families. Then after thinking more on it, I've concluded I've inadvertently chose a hero's life. Can't say I'm surprised, though. What surprised me was the amount of time it's taken to acknowledge it. If I was a betting man, I would wager that I started on this life path early in my childhood. My mother once told me that I should help people as much as I can, with all my available resources, so long as it isn't detrimental to me and lawful. Basically be the hero that I continue to read in my comic books, and see in the movies I watch. What's Next? It's no secret I love heroes. They're the good guys! And who doesn't like a hero, or at the very least, a good guy. Ultimately, they are role models that are relatable. You ide...
