Happy Thanksgiving 2017!
Over the years, I noticed that my Thanksgiving celebrations are inconsistent. However, most folks have traditions that are entrenched into their family history. It's inconsistent because I usually just adapt to what's going on in my life that particular year. But I noticed it's the type of holiday that is usually passed over like a middle child of a large family: largely forgotten.I feel bad, too, for those that love Thanksgiving and eagerly anticipate it each year. And yes, I understand the origin is another unsavory aspect of early American history - I get it.
Even still, it can be a happy Thanksgiving 2017 for all of us - if you think about it.
Scrolling through my social medias feeds (yes, multiple - #Twitter #Facebook and #Instagram) on November 1st, I noticed there's a void between those that love Christmas and those that follow tradition. There are some that love the magic of Christmas so much that they start playing music, and decorating their homes, thus nullifying Thanksgiving.
The rebuttal and posting-backlash is somewhat close to "calm down, it's November" to "let's get to Thanksgiving first".
And there it is: Thanksgiving Day - the middle child of winter holidays. After Halloween and before Christmas yet still no one can say Happy Thanksgiving 2017! It's not that difficult.
I think Americans are not thankful because the tradition of serving a meal of gluttony and football is stressful. I'm just thankful to see another day on Spaceship Earth! If you've seen and done some of things I've done ... it's a miracle I'm still around. So I can sincerely say Happy Thanksgiving 2017.
This year I'll be returning to the tradition of flag football with friends and family with the JC Clarke Memorial Thanksgiving Day Football. Don't fret, though! JC is alive and well, he moved to Arizona from the Pacific Northwest so it's up to us to carry on the tradition.
Afterwards, it's off to an Orphan Thanksgiving with friends and American football to watch. I say, we should name it Friendsgiving - like everyone else does. But what do I know? All I know is to be thankful that I have the ability to enjoy the day with my friends and family.
