Clutch Carlos

Mood: Noble Listening to: Mark III [my iPod] Reading: Napkin Nights Volume 5 Watching: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, season 3 Eating: Everything I found at Fort Briggs Drinking: Milk A few days ago my friend, Matt aka General Briggs, text'd asking for help. Honestly, he rarely contacts me in any way, shape or forms since I moved out of his crib and into my current crib. I thought he was jailed in Tijuana, divorced, broke, missing a limb. The text requested I call ASAP so that was within 2 minutes of receiving the text. Dude, if you know me, you know I'm sitting on my mobile - the one device I use to communicate with the outside world. Apparently, he made travel plans to fly his wife and newborn daughter, Rily to Phoenix so his 'rents can see her. The original house / dog sitter bailed on them days before departure. They requested I do it from 12/23 (Wed) to 12/28 (Mon) Yes, over Christmas Eve and Christmas. I've always wanted to be clutch for a family that took me i

THEE Seattle Freeze

Mood: Rant Listening to: iTunes - entire library on random Reading: Girl Genius Omnibus #1 Drinking: Java Another Fridance, another night to post up in the nightclub scene... I constantly wonder why bother with this bullshit. Here's a blog post that found: "Ok, so I've heard for some time about this mysterious force called "The Seattle Freeze". More than a few folks have mentioned this, and apparently it's perceived to be quite real. What is it? It's the notion that it's hard to meet people in this town, that Seattleites are "friendly but cold", and that compared to other large cities, people like to mind their own business and not go out of their way to make friends." And here's a response to it that I agree to: "I have found most people to be sincerely polite, but not as quick and easy to get to know as I have in the past in other cities. I'm also realizing that you need to have one group of friends for certain activ

2009 - Year In Review

WOW! 8 months of web shyness. Goodness. Thankfully I've been busy; not artificially busy. Shortly after the last entry [March 16 2009], we accepted an offer on the house. It was less than the asking price plus we had to replace the furnace but it was our opportunity to be free from each other. I was asked from the Wicked BITCH of the Eastside what would make me happy. Well 1) be divorced 2) the house sold. One was done, I was determined to complete two April 2009 - "Cannonization" - I bombed down to Tolovana State Park with friends to photograph the famed Haystack Rock. Also rocked up a great restaurant called Camp 18. We visited with other friends in the Portland area. Drank at a pub called "The Thirsty Lion", an Irish bar. That same month, I photographed Snoqualmie Falls as I should've a hella long time ago. Not only that, but I got big in the train car graveyard. On the heels of that weekend was an "EPIC weekend". I was given a legen[wait for i

Let There Be Light[room]

So I attended a Lightroom 2 (LR) course last weekend. It was 9a-6p for both days. The course was taught by Valerie Henschel of Step Ahead Photo. I didn't realize just how basic the course was... which was aiight since I was able to tinkering with LR2 uninterrupted by friends and family. For the most part, I figured out that she would just be blah, blah, blah so I dove into photos I wanted "treat". I raced home and decided to buy LR2 with a discount because of my "recent" purchase of CS4. Since it was done in December, it doesn't qualify anymore... DAMNIT! I think I still have discount today, and it ends today. I'll take a hard look at it. In other news... The 2nd Annual PSA International Individual Creative Competition 2009 has begun! The deadline for submission is March 15th, so I'll dig through an at least submit an entry *click* I'm gonna have a poll of the peeps decide the eventual entry(ies)

WOW. If you asked me a year ago, how the next year would play out I wouldn't have guessed this. Seriously... my wife of 4 years cheats on me w/ a police officer, I visit friends all over the United States, I get promoted at work, I get my divorce, I hook up w/ random people and not-so-random people, develop my hobbies, expand my social network, put my house on the market... crazy, crazy time. Having a blast, though. I've gotta admit a stretch of 2-3 months was depressingly brutal, but I kept digging. And even right now, I'm better for it.

A Weekend of Firsts

So. The Eastside Camera Club organized it's first field trip of the year on the first weekend of the year. I thought that was cool breeze, as I've never been on a photo field I decided to sign up. Considering I'm the VP of said club I assumed it was a good idea. I drove myself (first rally of the year) without a GPS (first time) to the small town town of Marblemount (first time I drove to a small town by design) to photograph bald eagles (first time for the eagles, and first for birds 'cause they are not my photograph love) in a zodiac. My president (Leah) and two other members (Michael and his wife, Linda) bombed up there with me. I had a blast!! It inspired me to do more of these trips. Why? First (LOL), I love photography and second, they are relatively cheaper than what I did for vacations. Now I'll be staycations in the coming year...
